PATTANAM TOWN PANCHAYAT

Pattanam is a Town Panchayat in Namakkal District,   The area of the Town panchayat is 5.63sq.km.  The town is divided into 15 election wards in the year of 1996.  This is First Grade Town Panchayat, and it is  located at a distance of 2.00 km from Rasipuram. The Population of the town as per 2011 census was 8912. 

1.2  TOWN ADMINISTRATION

            Pattanam Town Panchayat was constituted First Grade Town Panchayat. The extent of the Town Panchayat  is 5.63 Sq.K.M.  The population of the  Town Panchayat is  8912 as per 2011  census, consisting 4514 men and 4398 women.

            The town was delineated to 15 Administration wards.  The Urban local Body elections were held on 25.10.2011 for the posts of Chairman and 15 Town Panchayat Councillors.

1.1.2 POLITICAL WING

            The Town Panchayat council the Political arm of the Town Panchayat consists of 15 elected councilors each representing a ward. The Chairman heads Town Panchayat council which performs its duties as per the provisions of the District Municipalities Act 1920.  The Political wing provides direction to the Town Panchayat and performs its functions through a set of committees constituted for different purposes.

1.1.3 EXECUTIVE WING

            The Executive wing is responsible for day to day operations of the Town Panchayat and is headed by the Executive Officer.  The Executive Officer is the Administrative head of the Town Panchayat functional department.

 1.1.4 FUNCTIONAL DEPARTMENTS

            Pattanam Town Panchayat consists of Three functional departments.  Each department consists of Head who reports to the Executive Officer and functions as per the responsibilities prescribed in the Act and as delegated by the Executive Officer.

             The Town Panchayat council has adopted citizen’s charter for its various functions and to provide efficient and prompt civil services to the citizens.  According to the content of the charter, the Town Panchayat functions are transparent, accountable and responsiveness to the citizens of the town.

Pattanam  is Located at a distance of 2 Kilometers West of Rasipuram on the Rasipuram – Pudypatty Main Rod.

The State Highway connects this town with other areas with the road network.  The major corridiors are

 I)          Pattanam       -           Rasipuram

1.5 CLIMATE CONDITION

         The temperature here is moderate throughout the year except during summer.  The average rainy day are 39 in a year.  It is exceptionally dry and its rainfall is scanty, uncertain and not well distributed.

1.6 SOIL CONDITION

    Pattanam Comprises Two revenue villages namely " Pattanam " and these villages are having two different types of soils viz. red earth, Clay.  The major portion is covered by black cotton red then comes red sand and black loam.  In general, the soil in and around the town is of fertile nature and is good for agriculture purposes.

            The Main Occupation of Pattanam Town Panchayat population is Agriculture.  Nearly 96.50% of the working population are engaged in Agriculture activities.  The remaining 3.50% of workers are engaged in non-agriculture.
