                      KETTI (SEL. GRADE) TOWN PANCHAYAT

1.1  TOWN HISTORY

Ketti a Selection Grade Town Panchayat, is located in the North Part of Udhagamandalam Municipality East Part of Jagathala town Panchayat and Ubhadhaly village Panchayat South part of  Nanjanadu Village west part of Adigarty Town Ketti is a Town Panchayat constituted in the year 1920. The Town is coming under the administrative territory of Nilgiri District. Because 75%  Agricultural land is surround in this area. The Ketti Town Panchayat situated at the top of View point of Udhagamandalam. Along the NH-47 It is located at a distance of 8 Kilo metres Nilgiris District Town and at a nearest Ketti Railway Station.  The Population of the town as per 2001 census was 24534 (male 12014, Female 12520) with an extend of 19.20Sq.Km. There are 18wards and no 120 streets, the Ketti Town Panchayat in  64 Habitations.

1.2  TOWN ADMINISTRATION

Year of Constitution / Formation Town Panchayat

 

1)         This Town Panchayat was first constituted as Village Town Panchayat from 1932 by the by Inspector of Chennai Local body Development. 

 

2)        Subsequently First Grade Town Panchayat from 08.02.1955 as per Director of Rural Development, Chennai Roc.No.454/55 Dated 08/02/1955.

 

3)         This town panchayat was reconstituted as Selection Town Panchayat from 13.03.1985.   As per Director of Town Panchayat, Chennai Roc.No.4/99/8905, dated 13.03.1985.

 

4)         This First Grade Town panchayat was reconstituted as Sepcial Village Panchayat  from 16.06.2004, GO.No.6242/2002.

 

5)         This Special Village Panchayat was reconstituted as Town Panchayat.  As per Municipal Administration and Water Supply (Election) Department G.O.(Ms) No.55, Dated 14.07.2006.

 

 

1.1.2 POLITICAL WING

            The Ketti Town Panchayat council the Political arm of the  Town Panchayat consists of 18 elected councilors each representing a ward.  The Chairman heads Town Panchayat council  which performs its duties as per the provisions of the District Municipalities Act 1920.  The Political wing provides direction to the Town Panchayat and performs its functions through a set of committees constituted for different purposes.

1.1.3 EXECUTIVE WING

            The Executive wing is responsible for day to day operations of the Town Panchayat and is headed by the Executive Officer.  The Executive Officer is the Administrative head of the Town Panchayat functional department.

1.1.4 FUNCTIONAL DEPARTMENTS

            Ketti Town Panchayat consists of four functional departments.  Each department consists of Head who reports to the Executive Officer and functions as per the responsibilities prescribed in the Act and as delegated by the Executive Officer.

            The Town Panchayat council has adopted citizen’s charter for its various functions and to provide efficient and prompt civil services to the citizens.  According to the content of the charter, the Town Panchayat functions are transparent, accountable and responsiveness to the citizens of the town.

1.3 LOCATION

The Ketti Town Panchayat situated at the of Vally View point of Udhagamandalam. It is a very famous view point.

 

1.4 TRANSPORT LINKAGE

Ketti Town Pancyat at the side of Nagapattinam , Gudalur. Mysoor Road.  This town is 8 Km away from the Yellanhalli Bus Stop.  Ketti Town Panchayat is the West side of  Nilgiris District.

 

            In this Town Panchayat limit bus facilities are available to

1)         Thirupur, 2)   Chennimalai, 3)       Kangayam, 4)           Bhavani, 5)   Ketti,

6)         Gobi, 7)          Perundurai,  8)         Kunnathur.

 

RAILWAYS

            Nearly Raiway Station of Ketti Town Panchayat is Ketti.  The Distance of the Ketti is 200m away from Ketti Town Panchayat.  Ketti Railway Junction is very useful for traveling to Mettupalayam.

 

1.5 CLIMATE CONDITION

         The Town is situated on  temperature here is moderate throughout the year except during summer  is best climate.  The prevailing winds are from South-West and  North-East, The highest and the lowest mean velocities occurring in the months of July and November respectively.

            The town gets rainfall both from the North-East and South-West Monsoons.  Most of the rainfall occurs between July and November.
