PROFILE

Introduction

The Kilpennathur Town Panchayat is one of the First Grade Town panchayat in Thiruvannamalai District.  The main occupation in this Town is agriculture. The town is located 16 kms away from the District Headquarter and on the way of Chennai. 16kms away from the famous Annamalaiyar Temple located in Tiruvannamalai. In this town panchayat 84 no. of Sodium Vapour Lights, 89 no. of. CFL & 256 no. of Tube Lights, 2 nos of Highmast light  is well maintained.

Kilpennathur Town Panchayat has total administration over 3,472 houses to which it supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage. It is also authorize to build roads within Town Panchayat limits and impose taxes on properties coming under its jurisdiction.

Kilpennathur is also one of the assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Kilpennathur is separated from Tiruvannamalai suburban Taluk and was announced as a separate and New Taluk by Tamil Nadu's government on 31.8.2015.

Demographic & Geographic of Kilpennathur Town Panchayat

As of 2011 India census Kilpennathur had a population of 13,718. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kilpennathur has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 55.6%, and female literacy is 44.4%. In Kilpennathur, 11.3% of the population is under 6 years of age. Kilpennathur Town Panchayat its geographical coordinates are 12° 14' 51" North, 79° 13' 24" East.

In the nearest of Tiruvannamalai holy places Sri Seshadri Swamigal Ashram, Sri Ramana Ashram, Yogi Ram Surathkumar Ashram are pilgrims. Kilpennathur Town can be reached from Gingee Fort by road by traveling 21 kilometres due east.

History of the District:

Kilpennathur Town Panchayat is situated in Tiruvannamalai District . The famous historical temple Arunachaleswarar is situated in Tiruvannamalai  which is well known temple of Tamilnadu. It is famous due to the pilgrims girivalam on full moon days of every month towards  a distance of 14 km around the Arunachaleswarar  temple .

            The Sathanur Dam is situated in Tiruvannamalaia District at a distance of 15km from Tiruvannamalai towards south side. The river kamandala  nathi starting from the origin of Jawaddu  hill area and the naga nathi starting from the origin of Amirthi forest join together and named as Kamandala Naga Nathi which is flowing throw this District.

            Cheyyar River is another river which is starting from west side hills of Tiruvannamalai District. Both above to rivers join together at near Kanchipuram named as river Palar.

Environmental Management (SWM)

In Kilpennathur Town Panchayat  9 Public Health workers and one Sanitary supervisor is engaged in the field of public health to maintain the public health.  For public health purpose one Tractor with Tipper engaged to collect the garbages and solid waste generated in the town panchayat area.  The above mentioned vehicle are used to collect the garbages daily in Kalyana Mandabam, Schools, Bus Stops, Temples  and other important public areas.  The collected garbages are segregated and sent to the compost yard.

The door to door solid waste collection was started from December 2002 and done in 11 wards out of 15 wards daily by Pushcarts with the help of women SHG group.  The plastic garbages are collected separately and stock at this compost yard.   The drainages are cleaned once in week by the sanitary workers.  Power spraying is done using baytex and other mosquito killing minerals, once in 15 days in all town panchayat areas

            Solid waste collected from door to door is segregated in the compost yard and Bio degradable Solid waste are made natural manure for agriculture purpose .Other solid waste plastics glass etc are sold for recycling purpose. The natural manure produced is sold at rate of Rs.2/- kg for the agriculture purpose .Thus the solid waste management scheme is functioning profitable manner in this Town Panchayat.

The Town Panchayat is have its own  compost park which is situated in survey No.256/13 at an extent of  1.56 acres. The Town Panchayat obtained No Objection to above site from Tamilnadu pollution Control Board. There is a Sandhaimedu, Nedugampoondi, Kilpennathur in this town panchayat.

In Kilpennathur Town Panchayat Poongavanathamman Car Festival there is a grand festival is celebrated every year March Month in this temple. During that time nearly 5000 peoples of this surrounding area gathered at this temple and worship the Lard Amman. 

Soild Waste Management (SWM) Profile:

            Kilpennathur Town Panchayat consist of 15 wards. The whole town consist of 69 streets covered under this solid waste collecting system. In that area daily from 6 am to 9.30 am the garbages are collected door to door by women’s SHG by Pushcarts. Nearly 0.8 ton garbages collected daily by Pushcart and tractors which is used in  public health work.  The collected garbages are segregated  as Bio degradable garbages and non Bio degradable garbages daily in the compost yard from 2pm to 5pm. The Bio degradable solid waste are kept in tubs in the solid waste management shed and it is made natural manure after period of 60 to 70 days with proper method of converting as compost. Now the entire operation of converting solid waste compost done in this tubs properly .

WATER SUPPLY HOUSE SERVICE CONNECTIONS

         As  per  the Tamil Nadu  Panchayat  Act, 1994, the Town Panchayat Executive Officer may at his discretion on application by the owner or by the occupier of  any  building arrange  to supply water through House Service  Connections

          Kilpennathur Town Panchayat has framed a separate water supply bye-law for adoption by the consumer incorporating various terms and conditions.  The total number of house service  connections in a Kilpennathur Town Panchayat area is restricted to the sanctioned capacity of water supply scheme in force in a Town Panchayat.
