Thiruppathur Town Panchayat
Thiruppathur is the headquarters of the Taluk of its name. It is situated 62 Km north east wards from Madurai and 35 Km north of Sivaganga. It is the central place The routes from Thanjavur to Madurai to Devakottai , Karaikudi to Dindigal, Pudukkottai to Manamadurai pass through this Town. The nearest railway station is Karaikudi which is 23 Km east wards. The Total area of the Town Panchayat is 14.40 Sq.Km.This place rose around the spot where Valmiki Maharishi did penance. Hence this place was known as Valmikipuram. Valmiki in Sanskrit means an “ant hill “ The Place was therefore called Thiruppathur in Tamil meaning beautiful and hill Village. There is an ancient Siva temple which is one of the fourteen great pandiyan temples. Thiruthalinathar and sivagami amman are the deities . There are also idols of .The bairavar sannathi is another important section of the temple where the idol is in a rare posture of penance majestic and attractive. The mandapam was constructed by the Maruthu brothers which contains there images.
சிவகங்கை மாவட்டம், திருப்பத்தூர் தேர்வுநிலைப் பேரூராட்சி திருப்பத்தூரை தலைமையிடமாக கொண்டுள்ளது. மதுரையிலிருந்து 62 கி. மீ தொலைவிலும், காரைக்குடியிலிருந்து 35 கி.மீ தொலைவிலும் அமைந்துள்ளது. திருப்பத்தூர் பேரூராட்சி 14,40 சதுர கி. மீ பரப்பளவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இங்கு வால்மீகி முனிவர் தவம் செய்தததால் வால்மிகிபுரம் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது. பிறகு அப்பெயர் மருவி திருப்பத்தூர் என்ற அழைக்கப்பட்டது. இங்குள்ள திருத்தளிநாதர் ஆலயம் 14ம் நுற்றாண்டைச் சார்ந்த பாண்டியர் காலத்தவை, இக்கோயில் உள்ள யோகபைரவர் சன்னதி மண்டபம் மருது பாண்டியர் சகோதரர்களால் நிறுவப்பட்டு அங்கு மருது சகோதரர்கள் சிலை அமைந்துள்ளது.
