INTRODUCTION OF THE TOWN PANCHAYAT

       Melagaram Town Panchayat coming under the administrative territory of Tenkasi Taluck, Tirunelveli District. This Town constituted in the year of 1940 Village Panchayat Union. In the year 1977 Director of Town Panchayat Proceeding No. 41/1977 dates: 30.09.1977 constituted as Second Grade Town Panchayat. This Town Panchayat is coming under Ist Grade from the year 1984. In the year 11.6.2004 wide G.O.No.270 Date. 04.06.2004 It as called Special Village Panchayat. Again on 14.7.2006 wide G.O.No.55 date14.07.2006 as Town Panchayat.

       In this Town Panchayat Municipal act has been implemented and followed. Total Area of panchayat 6.56 Square of Kilometer. Total 31.180 k.m of roads, Total 15.700 km of Storm water drain, Total 30.50 km pipe lines has been Maintained by town Panchayat.

       The ancient temple of  Veerapandia Amman koil is situated this town panchayat area limit, between Tenkasi to Courtallam. The Temple of Courtalla Nathar Koil is situated in Courtallam near by 2 km, The Temple of Kasi Viswanathar Koil is situated in Tenkasi near by 1 km, The Temple of Thiruvilanji Kumarasamy Koil is situated in Elanji near by 2 km.
