Acharapakkam Town Panchayat

Introduction

Acharapakkam is a town Panchayat constituted in the year 01.10.1969. The Town is coming under the administrative  territory of Kancheepuram District. The Town is situated at a distance of about 75 KM from the district head quarters Kancheepuram and 96 Kms from Chennai. With a population of 10362 as per 2011 census. The Town panchayat is divided into 15 wards.

Acharapakkam town from Chennai city is well connected by good net work of roads and railway line located on South Chennai Grand, Southern Trunk Road (National Highway) and along Chennai- Acharapakkam. Railway Line and it is covered.

History

          Prakadheeshwarar – Aatchi Konda Nathar temple is situated at Acharapakkam. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There is a separate sanctum for Goddess Balasukhambal. Inscriptions from the period of Raja Raja Chola II are preserved in the temple. The sthala Vriksham (sacred tree) is Konrai and the theertham is Deva Theertham. Sage Sambandar has contributed pathigams in praise of Aatchi Konda Nathar. The main festival is the annual Bhrammotsavam celebrated in the month of Chitthirai (Mid April-Mid May).

        On the ancient days the Asuras named Kamalatchan, Tharagam, Vidthwanmali after building the castle in the Sky with the aid of gold, Iron & Silver and flied in the Space & gave much troubles to the Devas & Munivas who were traveling on these side.
