Alangayam Selection Grade Town Panchayat is situated at a distance of 18 Kms from Vaniyambadi on the Vaniyambadi Thirupattur Road. The town Panchayat was constituted as a Grade II Town panchayat in the year 1955. It was later upgraded as Grade I Town Panchayat on 15.05.1963.
